Trap-neuter-return (TNR) is a program through which free-roaming community cats (not belonging to particular humans) are humanely trapped; sterilized, medically treated, ear-tipped and returned to the outdoor locations where they were found.
 
Endorsed by both the American Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), TNR has been described as "the most humane, effective and financially sustainable strategy for controlling free-roaming cat populations." 
 
The City of Aiken and the SPCA Albrecht Center have partnered to address the problem of feral community cats and come up with a simple, effective TNR program for community cats within City of Aiken limits.

HOW IT WORKS

If you require assistance, or have not been successful in trapping the cat, please contact public safety at (803) 642-7620.
 
Bring the cat(s) to our Veterinary Care Center in the live trap (like the one pictured). NOT a kennel or closed carrier. This is better for the cat and safer for you and our staff.

Cats must arrive between 8:00 - 8:30am on the morning of surgery.
 
You will be informed when to pick up the cat that same day. A $30 overnight boarding fee will apply to any cat not picked up by closing time.
 
You will be responsible for releasing the cat back into the same area where it was trapped.
 
We recommend that you set traps Monday - Thursday as our veterinary care center only performs spay/neuter surgeries Tuesday - Friday. Appointments for feral cats are not mandatory but we appreciate it if you are able to give us a heads up!
